Annual Molecular Biosciences Retreat
Every Autumn, several hundred graduate students, post-docs, and faculty members in the Molecular Biosciences Cluster travel to scenic Galena, IL, for the Annual Molecular Biosciences Retreat. This two day, two night, excursion provides a unique atmosphere for disseminating knowledge, networking, and socializing with colleagues.
Organized similarly to a small research conference, the retreat includes several sessions with 15 minute research presentations along with a poster session. In addition to encouraging intellectual interactions and collaboration, the Molecular Biosciences Retreat provides a comfortable atmosphere allowing students to develop their presentation skills in preparation for presentations at international meetings. Although most of the talks at the retreat are given by students and post-docs, a few incoming faculty also present in order to acquaint everyone with their research.
In addition to the scientific program, the retreat includes free time in the late evening and Saturday afternoon for socializing. The retreat ends with a theme party which includes presentations of awards for best poster and best talk along with food, beverages, and music.
Students are expected to attend the retreat and all expenses are paid.
