Why apply to the Committee on Genetics
View of the Science Quadrangle from the Gordon Center for Integrative Science
The focus of the Committee on Genetics is to train students to utilize sophisticated genetic analysis in their own research program. If you are interested in receiving training in advanced rationales and methods of genetic analysis and integrating genetic-based strategies with other interdisciplinary approaches to investigate key clinical and basic science problems, the Committee on Genetics is the appropriate doctoral program. The Committee on Genetics brings together faculty from numerous academic departments who utilize a wide range of genetic strategies to address important biological problems in diverse genetically tractable systems including, viruses, bacteria, blue-green algae, Arabidopsis, yeast, Tetrahymena, nematodes, Drosophila, mice, humans, and worms.
- If you are primarily interested in cell or molecular biology and do not envision using genetic and genomic approaches as a primary means of discovery, the Department of Molecular Genetics and Cell Biology may be a better fit.
- If you are specifically interested in the genetics of human development, human evolution or disease mapping, the Department of Human Genetics may be a better fit.
